How to Install Windows 11 on Unsupported CPU & TPM 1.2

How to Install Windows 11 on Unsupported CPU & TPM 1.2

Windows 11 requires a lot of hardware and software requirements. Even many PCs that are running Windows 10 smoothly might not be eligible to install Windows 11. For example, Windows 11 requires that you have an 8th generation or newer Intel processor and must have TPM 2.0. In simple words, Windows 11 requires an almost new PC with the latest hardware and software.

If your PC is incompatible with Windows 11, you have two choices, i.e., you can either keep using Windows 10 till October 14, 2025 (the last date of Microsoft support for Windows 10) or you still try to install Windows 11 on your PC using the official method provided by Microsoft to bypass the processor and TPM checks.

But here's the question: why is Microsoft itself offering the method to install Windows 11 on unsupported PCs? The main reason behind this is that many businesses want to test out Microsoft 11 but they don't have the supported PC. Therefore, Microsoft is offering the bypass method for processor and TPM checks to let those users experience Windows 11. However, Microsoft does warn that you may not receive security updates in the future if you follow the bypass method. So, if you are willing to take the risk, then keep reading this blog to learn how to use Microsoft workaround to install Windows 11.

Steps to Install Windows 11 using Official Microsoft Workaround

Follow the below steps to install Windows 11 on an unsupported CPU and TPM 1.2:

Step 1. Download ISO

You should start by downloading the ISO file of Windows 11 from the Microsoft website. Follow the below sub-steps to download the ISO file:

  1. Go to Microsoft Windows 11 downloading page by clicking here.
  2. When the webpage opens, go to the "Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO) section.
  3. Select "Windows 11" from the drop-down menu and then click "Download".
  4. Lastly, select the language and click "Confirm".

This way, your browser will start downloading the Windows 11 ISO file, which will be around 5GB.

Step 2. Update Registry

While Windows 11 is downloading, you should proceed with updating the registry. Follow the below sub-steps to update the registry:

  1. Search "registry editor" from the Windows search bar and then click the best match option.
  2. Type "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\MoSetup" in the location field of the Registry Editor to navigate to the specific location.
  3. Once you are in the right location, look if you see something like "AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU". If you don't see this value, then create a new one. However, if you see this value, then head to step 3 (Install Windows 11 ISO).
  4. Right-click your mouse on the right side of the Registry Editor and then click "New > DWORD (32-bit) Value".
  5. Name that value as "AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU".
  6. Double click the new value you just created and set the value to "1". Once done, click "OK" and close the Registry Editor window.

Step 3. Install Windows 11 ISO

After completing step 2, you have successfully updated the registry and now it's time to install Windows 11. So, go to the location where you have downloaded the ISO file of Windows 11. Double-click the ISO file and then open the "setup" file. Now follow the on-screen instructions to install Windows 11.

Bonus Tip: Revert Back to Windows 10

After using Windows 11 for some days, if you feel you want to revert back to Windows 10, then you can still do it if the Windows 11 installation period has not crossed 10 days. In simple words, within 10 days of Windows 11 installation, you can revert back to Windows 10. Follow the below steps to do it:

  1. From Windows 11, open the "Start" menu and then open the "Settings" app.
  2. Select "System" from the left sidebar and then click "Recovery".
  3. Click the "Go back" button.

This way, you can quickly go back to Windows 10. However, keep in mind that Windows 11 only provides 10 days to use this option.

Wrapping Up

Windows 11 is the newest operating system of Microsoft, which excites many Windows users to try it out. But if your PC does not support Windows 11 CPU and TPM requirements, then you can still install Windows 11 by following the above steps. However, you should only try this method if your PC is not critical for your day-to-day activities because Microsoft does warn that updating to Windows 11 this way might not support future security updates. So, evaluate your needs first and then decide whether you want to install Windows 11.
